SANBI is seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to join our team as a Groen Sebenza Internship Program Coordinator. This position presents an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in coordinating and facilitating the Groen Sebenza Internship Program, an innovative initiative aimed at empowering young South Africans with practical skills and experience in biodiversity conservation and related fields.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Groen Sebenza Internship Program, including recruitment, selection, placement, orientation, training, and mentorship of interns.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner organizations, including government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and private sector entities, to facilitate internship placements and collaboration.
  • Work closely with SANBI staff and external partners to design and deliver training programs, workshops, and mentorship activities to support the professional development of interns.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to interns throughout their placement, including regular check-ins, performance evaluations, and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the internship program, collect feedback from interns and stakeholders, and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Manage program budgets, resources, and administrative tasks in accordance with SANBI policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with communications and outreach teams to promote the Groen Sebenza Internship Program and showcase the achievements and impact of interns.
  • Stay informed about developments and best practices in the fields of biodiversity conservation, youth development, and skills training, and incorporate relevant insights into program design and implementation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, conservation management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • At least 3 years of experience in project management, capacity building, or youth development, preferably in the field of biodiversity conservation.
  • Proven track record of working effectively with diverse stakeholders and managing complex partnerships.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and frameworks related to biodiversity conservation and youth empowerment in South Africa.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and project management tools.
